Three teens who were responsible for a series of three armed robberies were arrested and recently charged and arraigned for the homicide of Warren resident Saja Al Janabi, 29, which occurred on Monday, Sept. 6.

Al Janabi was shot while sitting in a vehicle outside of her family’s home around 9:52pm that evening in what has since been deemed a “totally random” murder.

[Saja] was an innocent victim; it was a random crime and if I were in that car, or if you were in that car, it would’ve happened to me,” Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad said during a press conference.

Of the three teens, Jamel Marquise Philson, 17, of Highland Park, and Demaurio Dismuke, 14, of Detroit are being charged as adults for their involvement. A third unnamed teen, 13, is being charged “adult-designated,” meaning that the judge can sentence this teen as juvenile, adult or a combination  of both.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office officially charged the three teens on Friday, Sept. 13, and maintain that Dismuke was the shooter.

“The alleged facts in this case encompass an extremely callous crime spree in Dearborn,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. “A trail of destruction was left that included randomly selected armed robberies, a homicide, and an assaultive crime— just because these defendants wanted to do them.”

Both Philson and Dismuke are scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on Sept. 20 at the 19th District Court in Dearborn. The 13 year-old will have a preliminary examination in Detroit’s juvenile court.
